"Little Gem on the Magnificent Mile!"

Fantastic boutique hotel in an awesome location steps from Michigan Ave. So close to great restaurants and shopping. The room was very clean and comfortable. Nothing fancy, but everything you need. There is a small bar and restaurant in the hotel, which was great to grab a drink after a full day of shopping or conferencing! Would absolutely stay again.

Came to The James just for one night before my flight back to Europe so I didn’t have the chance to enjoy this place as much as I would have loved to. Anyway, I was pretty excited about my stay as I really had high expectations due to the amazing reviews of the hotel. Location is perfect, right in the heart of Chicago, with the Magnificent Mile just around the corner and plenty of shopping, restaurants and bars within walking distance. There’s also a Trader Joe’s across the street which might be convenient. The hotel itself is nice but there’s no “WOW” effect. Lots of white and neutral colors around, which is something I usually like, but the style and the decor didn’t impress me. The lobby is quite average for this kind of hotel and so are the rooms. I liked the wet bar (there’s also complimentary purified water) and really enjoyed the super comfy bed after a long day walking around the city, but in the end I didn’t fall in love with this place. The bathroom was super tiny, and if you want some view make sure to ask for a room facing the street, otherwise you’ll be watching all the other rooms (and be watched too, so you should close those curtains in order to have some privacy). Talking about the service, we were not in the room much and we're not needy people, so our few interactions with staff was the front desk at check-in/out and valet (the overnight parking is quite pricey). Both were great, and also the room was clean so no complaints. Anyway, don’t get me wrong, we had a good stay but maybe my expectations were too high and in the end I didn’t fell in love with The James and it didn’t leave me wanting to go back.

We had 3 nights here, the hotel's location is good and the rooms are big. Not far from the subway and there is a Trader Joe's just over the road. The most comfortable bed and pillows ever and the shower pressure is great. Definitely worth a stay.

"Best Hotel Ever"

This is my new favorite hotel. It is posh and beautiful. The rooms not only equiped with everything you want, but even things most hotels don't stock like water in a carafe and shampoo, conditioner, and body soap (really nice stuff), The staff is so friendly and helpful. They directed me on how to take the subway back to the airport, and their directions were perfect. The hotel is just steps away from Michigan Ave and all the shopping and restaurants. There is a Trader Joes right across the hotel, and Eately is just behind it one block. The hotel is quiet at night. I stayed here by myself for two nights (single, female) and I felt really safe and well taken care of. I cannot wait to stay here again. Simply one of the most outstanding hotels I have ever stayed at.

My daughter and I stayed here two nights; we flew in from Boston as she's dancing with Joffrey Academy this summer. The hotel is very convenient to Michigan Ave and around the corner from Eataly. I have stayed at the Langham before and loved it, but I couldn't justify the price differential for this trip. This hotel was a great value, has a cool vibe and a friendly staff. I am returning when I pick her up in July and would recommend it without hesitation to friends and family.
