We stayed here for a week in January, the hotel has a spa and restaurant but beware the restaurant isn't cheap however the steak was the best I have tasted in the USA. The staff were amazing only too happy to help out and the concierge when we pulled up was right on point.

"Great night in Chicago with the Guys!"

This is my second stay at The James and it was great! There were 3 of us and we decided to get a Loft King Suite, it has 2 beds, a king bed and a day bed with a projector/sound system. Jason at the door greeted us, asked if we needed help with the bags and proceeded to help us up the stairs. Right now they are under renovation and it was great to have a doorman that was so attentive. He also helped us with out bags at check out too, both times he had a great personality! Jean-Luc and Traian were at the desk to check in and they were both good at their work. They helped get us our room keys, explain the hotel, and they both had some fun during the process. We went to the room and were very impressed, especially with the in-house tablet!! This system was easy to use and made ordering room service a snap. We loved the location and could walk to everything. Thank you for the great stay and I cannot wait to come back after the renovation!!

"GIRLS NIGHT"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

We had a great time in the penthouse suite - it was a perfect size to have our girls night in! I looked all over the city for a room with a nice size couch and a dining area - this room was truly a perfect fit. The bathroom is huge and gorgeous, the sliding room divider is very cool, and the wet bar area was perfect. Couldn't have asked for better! Hotel staff was ALL very friendly as well! Thanks for everything!

"Terrific Location"

First the pros: 1. Great location! Near Michigan ave (1 block), Eataly (1 block), a decent Mexican place next door and a Trader Joes and Starbucks across the street. Close to a lot of great restaurants and shopping, including a highly acclaimed steakhouse in-house! 2. Staff is friendly, attentive. 3. Rooms are modern and well equipped. More outlets than any other room I've stayed in. 4. Free wifi that is decent. No upgrades required. Cons: 1. Being remodeled, so lobby is temporary. Should be resolved soon (March/April 2017) 2. Mini bar is massive and full of stuff, including alcohol. I asked the mini-bar server to remove the items, and was told there was a $25-$35 charge. People who wrestle with alcoholism be aware. I think it is a reasonable request to ask that alcohol be reomoved without charge. 3. Communication. I used the room's tablet (cool techy touch!) to schedule a 5:15AM wake up call. The desk then called me to ask when I wanted the wake up call, as the technology is not quite connected. My meeting was cancelled, so I called the front desk and cancelled my 5:15AM wake up call. Still got a 5:15AM wake up call. No big deal, but keeps me from giving a higher rating Once remodeling is done, I'd be happy with a little higher rating. I booked it in Hotwire for about 30% less than their own website and any other travel site.

"4-Star Hype, 2-Star Experience "
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5
Reviewed March 18, 2017 NEW
I was not pleased with my overall experience at this hotel. The service was friendly & welcoming, but the rooms were not clean! Needless to say, this put a damper on my Birthday treat. The chocolate-covered strawberries amenity was a nice touch. However, my initial room & bathroom were not clean. Upon request & showing associate the room, I was moved to Rm. 1718. This move was not an improvement. There were spots on the couch, walls & carpet. The bathroom toilet was unclean, along w/stains around slow drain in tub. Bathroom robe was dingy & frayed, and the ironing board cover was filthy. I typically request an extra sheet for additional ironing board padding, but I opted not to use. If I could've checked into another hotel, I would've, but no availability. Instead, I just cleaned bathroom myself!! This hotel claimed to be 4-Star! NOT! The dated room was 2-Star, and that's being generous. I've stayed at a 2 1/2 hotel with better offerings - like cleanliness; 4-Star hotels with 5-Star offerings. No matter the hotel rating, it doesn't matter if the place isn't clean . And, this wasn't. BIG disappointment and waste of money.
