"Fun, funky-modern hotel in great location"

The James Hotel is located one block from the Magnificent Mile. There are shops and restaurants galore within an easy walking distance. The hotel itself is a medium-sized boutique hotel in an old building that was renovated to be funky-modern. The staff at the hotel was diverse, friendly and capable. Check in was efficient. We got the Loft room and was pleasant surprised at the spaciousness and how bright and airy it was. There was even a movie watching room with a king-sized couch/bed (see picture), a built in digital projector, and a Bose sound system. You could connect your electronics to the HDMI input port on the wall to watch anything - I connected my iPad with Netflix and we watched a movie even though there’s a very nice dine-in AMC theater across the street. The only downside was that the view as really awful. Half of the hotel rooms look into an ugly open area capped off by a high-rise parking garage (see picture). The other half of the rooms have a much better street view. The bed was quite comfortable and the room’s HVAC was very effective. The room was showing its age, but overall a nice room worth the extra cost. The only complaint was the truly awful entertainment system they on the hotel TV. Getting to movies was so S-L-O-W that it timed out. Getting to music was so S-L-O-W it timed out. By slow I mean pulling up a radio station took at least five minutes and then only a few seconds of the song would play before it would pause waiting to load the rest of the song. AWFUL, awful, awful. WiFi was good and fast and free. It was by far quicker for me to download a movie on Netflix and play it on my iPad though their super-cool in-room theater than it was to use their awful TV entertainment system. I wonder how irritated guests are if they don’t have that setup. Room service has a variety of interesting options. (A TraderJoes store is across the street if you want a snack, wine, etc. that’s not on the menu.) The minibar was also interesting and well stocked. The restaurant had a somewhat limited breakfast menu, but the food was very well prepared and seasoned nicely. The service was prompt and friendly. Overall the hotel is well located, the staff is friendly, the accommodations are nice - a good hotel choice.

"Staycation made better by The James"

My boo and I wanted to get out of our neighborhood for the night to prepare for a solid 30 days of work in a row for me (ugh) and so we decided to get a room downtown instead of our original plan of going to Milwaukee for the night. I got a great deal on a room at The James and I didn't really know anything about the hotel. It was so hot outside and I was grumpy but as soon as I walked in, I felt refreshed and calm IMMEDIATELY. The front desk ladies were both stylish and adorable, the decor in the lobby was drool worthy, and the room was the perfect mix of comfort, modern, and simplicity. I immediately took a wonderful shower and basically huffed the shampoo and body wash because they smelled so good and took one of the best naps of my life. The snack & booze bar was so cute and the bedside tablet was genius and useful. The wine and cheese made me feel like I was rich and fancy. The one thing that made my tear up is seeing the Lil James milk & cookies turn down service option. I think that's the cutest thing and I wish I could have had that. Thank you for such a great stay!! I will say my stay at the James was the BEST hotel experience ever. I'm already starting to plan another staycation at your hotel!

"Nice hotel and nice location"

I traveled for business and did not have much free time, but the location let me maximize that time. I was able to walk around the city for a while, and was even able to stop by American Girl for my daughter. The hotel has a modern feel and is well kept. The room was on the smaller side but still very nice. The tablet in the room was a nice touch.

The James was a great place to stay, close to everything. Clean, modern and great service. Stayed in June 2018 - mother and daughter trip. The beds and pillow are very soft which can be good or bad, dependent upon your preference. Great full size products in the bathroom which is a special treat.
