"Great Location, large rooms, friendly but slow service"

We stayed at the Hard Rock for a couples-weekend to see a Cubs game. The location of the hotel can't be beat and the decor is fun, but I can't recommend the hotel because of the service. We waited at the front desk, for bell service, at the bar, and in the restaurant. On the other hand.....for the most part everyone was friendly. The beer was cold, the drinks were good, and the server was friendly, but we waited forever for a drink at the bar. I can't recommend the restaurant at all. The server was rude and the service was very slow. Half our food was fantastic, and the other half was not edible. The beds and linens were comfortable, the TV was large, and the towels were fluffy (but we only got two). Sleeping was not a problem. But, I booked two city view rooms and one room had wall-to-wall windows with a view of the lake. One had typical hotel windows with a sliver of city and a view of the air conditioning unit of the building next door. I recommend you ask for a lake view. All in all, the stay was satisfactory. I do not feel that the hotel itself was worth the cost, but the location can't be beat.

positives: location is good. very close to Cloud Gate, which is a must see. Building itself is beautiful. Check in was easy, quick, and friendly. water pressure is good and temp is great. Never heard noise from the next room over, ever though it was a lock off. Nice touch of Keurig with three free k-cups was a nice touch, though we didn't use it. negative: cleanliness of the room and house keeping. upon arrival, picture on the wall had gum stuck to it, piece of jerky on the floor. Had sign on door for NO room service, but got it anyway. Took all washcloths and didn't give new ones. bathroom is nice, but worried every time I pulled out the lighted wall mount magnifying mirror it was going to come off the wall. Tub/shower tired, and very shallow. Don't expect to take a real bath. Furniture beat up. Corners and edges worn, doors that don't line up very well. Get a room away from the elevator, we heard everyone come and go, and in a city like Chicago, that is all night long. Fought with the room temp for a few days, set very low, then got hot. Two bottles of Figi water in the room, don't drink it, unless you want to be charged $3 each. Bed creaked every time we sat on it or rolled over (but pretty comfy) and the pillows were horrible, both the foam and down. Even displays of memorabilia were dusty and tired! a few cased in the restaurant empty, just dust. I'm sure the elevators were safe, but they were scary! Noisy and clunky with a rough ride.

"Very comfortable, great location"

I stayed here while in Chicago for a conference. The bed was extremely comfortable, with great quality sheets and bedding. It was centrally located, walkable to down town and financial area, very close to museums and parks. Front desk personnel were extremely friendly and helpful. Outside of the lobby, the hotel is quiet. However, it is on a busy street, and traffic noises can be heard at night. That is the down side to the hotel. I listened to white noise on my phone to sleep. Other than that, no complaints.

"Cool and modern, great location"

Are you tired of sharing a hotel space with middle-aged conventioneers? Looking for a funky, modern place along Michigan Avenue? Try the Hard Rock. The music theme runs throughout, different on each floor and each room. Some have commented that the rooms look a bit worn, but that was not my impression and I am pretty picky. You step right out onto Michigan and Wacker and most good restaurants and clubs are less than five minutes away by foot. No, you do not get breakfast included like at the Homewood Suites or Embassy Suites, but then again you do not have to listen to someone discussing the benefits of flocculant in wastewater treatment while you are having a beer at the bar. Tattooed guests welcome, the more the better. Not that I have any, just letting you know.

"Location is perfect but hotel is aging"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

We loved the location of this hotel, close to everything. We feel safe as a couple of nights we were out till pretty late. The room, I just used it for showering and sleeping as I spent most of my day at the conference. The bed was comfortable but there was a constant noise from the air conditioning that bothered me first night, but I got used to it the second night. The shower is standing shower in the room I had, and it's showing its age, I always pack a pair of flipflop for the shower to any hotel, so those came in handy here. The layout of the room is modern but definitely aging. Wifi with my phone was something spotty, but it worked.
